Michael B. Malone, Edinburgh Re the latest research showing that caesarian babies are at more risk of breathing difficulties. I had an insight while watching TV where a mother way 'giving birth' and was incited to give one last push. That last push compresses the baby's chest, pushing out fluid from the lungs and when the baby slides out the release of pressure causes the chest to expand and pull in air, resulting in the baby's first breath. Nature has arranged it in this beautful natural way and it is a pity that women opt for a less painful way rather than suffer the pain which is her last gift to her child while it is still connected to her.
Rita Butler, Stoke-on-Trent I'm leaving midwifery after eighteen years. I can't work under poor management and i feel demoralised and unable to function as a midwife should. I am classed as a good midwife.
